Norfolk Holiday

Another long overdue post, back in September last year we went to the north Norfolk coast for the week, to escape land locked Derbyshire & enjoy some sea air, and cake, mainly the cake.

We’d love to recommend Grooms in Burnham Market which served some of the moistest delectable chocolate cake & carrot cake, but unfortunately they closed shortly after our visits, so we need to rediscover where their pastry chef has gone to. We also had one of the strangest experiences trying to buy cheesecake in a bakers in Hunstanton, “two slices of that cheesecake please” “it’s expensive” comes the reply, waiting for the punch line expecting a  ‘well you can buy a full cake for the price of 3 slices’ or something similar, but it never came, “well how bad are we talking?” “it’s £2 a slice” “well that’s ok” “and it’s not like a normal cheesecake, it’s a proper cheese cheesecake” mm well that’s what we’d expect, just give us the damned cheesecake. Fortunately at the Thornham deli charging £3 a slice of cheesecake later in the week didn’t point out it was expensive, so didn’t get too much of a complex that we may look like tramps.

Bargain cake goes to Tamworth Tearooms in Hunstanton, where we got two sunday lunches, drinks, and cake, and then told the bill was under £20, actually questioned the bill thinking we’d been undercharged. Nope.

More good cake was procured from the Waverley Cake shop in Cromer, which suffered that terrible dilemma of simply offering too much choice.

No cake at the Crab Hut at Brancaster Staithe, but still an essential stop for a fresh baguette with todays catch and unwind by the quayside.

Unfortunate weather wise we had quite a bit of Sea Fret for the week (or mist/fog), which made for much of a flat week photography wise, but still good to get to the coast & unwind.
