Chatsworth – Beyond Limits 2013

Now in its 8th year, the Beyond Limits Sculpture exhibition adds yet another excuse, as if the huge 108 acre landscaped garden wasn’t enough, to visit the magnificent Chatsworth House & Gardens. This year brought 20 works from a variety of artists, here’s some of my favourites

Sun shines out of his arse - Alien - David Breuer-Weil

Manolo Valdés is a return, previously seen was Butterflies, which was a particular favourite from the 2010 exhibition.

Pavillion - Thomas Heatherwick

Thomas Heatherwick better known for creating the 2012 Olympic cauldron.

Tony Cragg has three works displayed, two of which are above

Spiral of the Galaxy - Marc Quinn

Another return visitor, Marc Quinn, previously of those giant white (and rather phallic) flowers back in 2009.

and finally, my (and I think many others) favourite sculpture of the day, Cyclone Twist from Alison Aycock.

There’s other work on display, but some, either I just didn’t like, I’ve just not been able to get a photo I’m happy with, or didn’t photograph well.

It was nice to see this year the sculptures condensed down in to the main end of the garden, some years they’ve been spread across much of the garden, which makes it difficult to get round them all at an enjoyable pace. Though with the full day to kill, we still went for an explore around much of the gardens, but managed to tour many of the sculptures twice.
